April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball stars who have won medals in more than one Olympics. She will be competing in Tokyo for her 3rd Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman who is a first-time Olympian. Ross is hoping to secure an Olympic first gold medal, however, she also hopes to win greater. This may be the last time she has the chance at age 39. The athlete is optimistic she can achieve top honors. Ross said on NBC Boston that if they perform at their very best, and even play well and they are able to play well, the team could win a gold medal. In addition, I'm planning put my faith in a touch of luck. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in 1982. Her parents and her sister were residents there. Ross competed in many sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. Her pre-athletic career comprised indoor volleyball along with basketball, running and track. But she clearly was an edge over the other players when it came to the second sport. Her college biography states that she played outside of the hitter middle blocker, as well as a setter throughout her volleyball time at high school. As a tribute to her efforts she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player 1999. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her for volleyball. While Ross and Klineman have been doing their thing since the year 2017, Klineman had already been a major player on the beach scene prior to their team. She's won big events twice, with various partners. One of them is an iconic player in the volleyball world. The pair teamed along with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and was also Klineman's personal trainer. Alongside Kessy Ross, she was a major force on the international stage, claiming a world title in 2009. At the 2012 Olympic Games, they received a gold medal. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the team of legends that took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, beat their opponents to claim the gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor when she announced her retirement. They both went on to take home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. After high school and several years prior to hitting the sand professionally, Ross played with the Trojans of USC as an NCAA. This was an impressive career for Ross in the college level. The year 2000 was her freshman year. earned her the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman's of award and become an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans get to the Final Four. The Trojans were devastated by a personal tragedy during her sophomore years, yet she went on to be an All-American again. Over her final 2 years in the Trojans team, she led them to a national title each year. In her own way, she cemented her place as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award is given to the most outstanding female volleyball players at colleges across the country. Ross had been an international studies major at USC. Unfortunately, Ross mother Margie was not able to witness Ross's daughter reach the very top of beach volleyball fame. When Ross was in her sophomore year at USC her mother passed away from breast cancer. Ross is still awed by her late parent. Also, Margie remains a source of inspiration to her on the beaches and throughout her daily life.
